Is dance 音乐 sexist?
Quietus’s Angus Finlayson 写:
Throughout the heydays of disco, house and techno, clubs were places 哪里 working class, gay and ethnic minority groups could enjoy a freedom of expression denied to them in the ‘outside’ world.
The political value of the dancefloor was in the construction of a social space 哪里 the rigid divisions of dominant culture ceased to apply. Gender, sexuality, race – they were 不相关的 when subjected to the carnival of sound, light and substances.
Finlayson继续辩称，那些平等时代已经过去了, asking “What ever happened to rave 乌托邦?”:
It’s fairly common these days to see 图片s of conventionally attractive women being used to promote 音乐 from a scene which is supposedly mistrustful of ‘image’.
Finlayson继续指出，在DJ Mag中’s 2011年百大DJ名单在100名女性中，有0名是女性。
Is dance 音乐 becoming more and more sexist?
If you judged the dance 音乐 scene based on the intentionally provocative 音乐 video for 满足，班尼·贝纳西（Benny Benassi）或100位DJ名单上的女性人数，得出这一结论很容易。
但nothing is quite that pat.
Dance 音乐 of the past was never as 乌托邦n as we might remember. For every dance 音乐 classic, like Giorgio Moroder + Donna Summer’s transcendent 我觉得爱， 那里’s a fauxgasmic Love To Love 您, Baby.
And, while men may top the DJ list, popular dance 音乐 is largely dominated by female artists.
When people like Finlayson wonder what happened to the rave 乌托邦 –答案是’s still there – 在他们的想象中.
